necropticon:

if your privilege/oppression framework is defined solely according to “these people get a kind of flak these people don’t get” and not “these people are actually materially exploited by these people” then you get all kinds of bullshit like vanilla privilege or, idk, non-goth privilege. tall privilege. you can apply it to literally anything

I reckon if more people understood this there would be a lot less victim blaming when it comes to rape.

Every time you say “It’s good that Dumbledore’s sexuality wasn’t mentioned in the books because it means he wasn’t defined by it,” you are saying something horrible about the queer people in your life. You are saying something horrible TO them. You’re telling them that once you know they’re gay—once you know a guy has a boyfriend or a woman has a wife or whatever—that’s ALL they are to you. You’re announcing that the knowledge of a sexual orientation other than what you expect as the default will completely dominate every aspect of a person’s existence in your mind.

So keep saying it. We need to know who to avoid.

Oh yes, you read my mind. That’s exactly what I meant by my response to that post. It’s not that I meant exactly what I said. It’s not like gay characters I saw on TV as a kid were just gay without anything else interesting to contribute. It’s not like being gay was literally their entire personality, their storyline, even their style. It’s not like they were a stereotype.

How dare I disagree. I must really think that.

Congratulations on seeing a one year old post talking about people saying something you didn’t say and somehow thinking it was about you. You are officially more wrong than anybody in the universe has ever been wrong before. Your trophy and a certification from Guiness, Ripley’s, and the Nobel Prize Institute will arrive in 7 to 10 business days.

And that person is truscum. Who’s surprised?

straight boys think girls can’t take compliments, and that’s ridiculous cause i’ve seen so many girls compliment each other, i’ve seen conversations & friendships blossom from girls complimenting each other in line, on the street, at school waiting for the bys, pretty much anywhere.

the problem is straight boys think sexual harassment & assault are compliments.

Photographer Marianne Kjølner snapped this pair of photographs of a bizarre tree in Denmark. Of the photo she says: “This old pink house is situated at the old dunes, a few hundred meters from the west coast, a very windy place were there isn’t much that can grow. So the tree can only grow where it has shelter.”

I’ve found that identifying as bisexual means you have to fight to validate your existence to both straight and gay people but, more importantly, you have to constantly validate it to yourself as well.

So….I totally never thought about this. I’m sure very few of you have. I don’t know about you, but I’m a bit disturbed…

Wow. Food for thought. I’m sure there’s an answer though.

Their names were translated/Anglicized after going from Greek to English.

The names of the Apostles are of Greek, Aramaic and Hebrew origins. The Hebrew, Aramaic and “Greek” named Apostles were:

Shim’on = Simon (Hebrew origin).

Y’hochanan = John (Hebrew origin).

Mattithyahu = Matthew (Hebrew origin).

Ya’aqov = James (Hebrew origin meaning Jacob).

Bar-Tôlmay = Bartholomew (Aramaic, which is related to Hebrew).

Judah = Jude / Saint Jude (not to be confused with Judas Iscariot, Hebrew origin).

Yehuda = Judas Iscariot (Hebrew origin, Betrayed Yeshua/Yehosua the Messiah).

Cephas / Kephas = Peter (Hebrew / Aramaic origin meaning “Rock”).

Tau’ma = Thomas (Aramaic origin).

Andrew = Andrew (Greek origin. Is the brother of Cephas / Kephas).

Phillip = Phillip (Greek origin).

You will note that there are only 11 names, that is because there were 2 Apostles named Ya’aqov (James), which brings the total to 12 apostles.

To expand on this, Jesus’s name is Anglicized in this way as well. We get Jesus from the Latin form of the Greek “Ἰησοῦς”(Iēsous), which is derived from the Herbrew “ישוע”(Yeshu’a, which meant “YHWH is Salvaion”, YHWH, or Yahweh being the name of God). When another form of that name, ” יְהוֹשֻׁעַ”(Yeoshu’a) was allowed to Anglicize through a different set of corruptions, it entered the English Language through Reformist Protestants as the name “Joshua”.

Yes. Jesus’s actual name is Joshua.
